The incredible tale about the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter.
watch trailerWhy did we CERTIFY this movie?
Where to start?
Though at its core, Poor Things channels Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein. Director Yorgos Lanthimos—whose credits include The Lobster, and most recently, The Favourite—unfurls the archetypal story of awakening as a full-frontal sensory extravaganza. The creation of Dr. Godwin Baxter (played by Willem Dafoe) is Bella Baxter, played by Emma Stone in a sure to be Academy Award-nominated performance. Bella takes us along as she awakens to the world around her, and then consumes it, including more than a few egg custard tarts and much "Furious Jumping". Her interactions and unfiltered reaction, unbridled from accepted societal norms, forces us to look at the world anew and challenge its construct.
Funny, challenging, and a feast for the senses from its sets to its costumes, Poor Things is many things, including not your typical night out at the movies.
